Polyaspartic Floor Coating

Polyaspartic Floor Coating In Prince George, British Columbia

Polyaspartic floor coating is the quick-setting option for cold Prince George garages and shops. Each coat firms up within hours, even in temperatures that would stall ordinary epoxy, and most floors take a vehicle about two days later.

Polyaspartic is a cousin of polyurea. It is tough, it keeps its colour in sunlight and it resists hot tire pickup, so we use it as the clear wear layer on most of our garage floors as well as on its own.

Polyaspartic Floor Coating details

Polyaspartic Floor Coating Works In Cold Garages

Ordinary epoxy stalls once the concrete gets cold, and an unheated garage in January can stay that way for weeks. Polyaspartic keeps hardening at temperatures that would stop epoxy, so we can keep booking garages through most of the winter months.

We still check before we start. If the concrete is too cold even for polyaspartic, a heater comes along on install day. Nobody guesses at the slab temperature on our jobs.

One-Day Polyaspartic Floor Coating

Since each coat sets so quickly, a full polyaspartic floor coating can be ground, coated, chipped and sealed in a single day. Most people walk on it that evening and drive on it after about two days.

That speed has a trade-off. The material sets fast, so it has to be laid in small sections to get a clean finish. It also costs more than epoxy, usually about $7 to $12 per square foot.

Polyaspartic Floor Coating Or Epoxy

Both make a good floor. Epoxy is the better primer on rough or thirsty concrete, because it soaks in and fills more. A polyaspartic floor coating makes the better top layer, because it is harder at the surface and does not yellow in the sun.

For most garages we combine the two. If the fastest possible install is the goal, we build the whole floor in polyaspartic. Our garage floor coating page shows the standard build.

Polyaspartic Floor Coating For Shops And Porches

The same fast set works in places other than garages. Small shops, mud rooms and enclosed porches all suit it, because they need to be back in use quickly and some of them see direct sunlight. For heavy truck bays, our shop floor coating is built thicker.

Sunlight Does Not Yellow Polyaspartic Floor Coating

Garages with a west-facing door or windows catch strong afternoon sun in summer, and June days in Prince George are long. Plain epoxy can turn amber after a few years of that light, most of all in pale colours. A polyaspartic floor coating keeps its colour, which is a big reason it sits on top of nearly every garage system we build.

Caring For A Polyaspartic Floor

Upkeep is simple. A squeegee and a mop handle daily dirt, and pushing slush out before it dries keeps salt from leaving a white haze. A yearly wash with a mild cleaner brings back the shine. Put a mat under a welding table, and keep hot tools off the bare surface.

Other Floors We Install

Lots of projects pair a garage coat with a basement floor, or a shop coat with slab repairs.

Garage Floor Coating

Garage floor coating keeps salty slush and drip oil sitting on the surface, where a squeegee can move them, rather than soaking into the slab. Every garage gets a diamond grind first, which gives the resin real concrete to grab.

Shop Floor Coating

A shop floor coating shields the concrete in a working bay from oil, coolant, road salt and falling steel. It is built heavier than a house garage floor, with grit locked in so mechanics stay on their feet when the bay is wet.

Basement Epoxy Flooring

Basement epoxy flooring replaces a cold, powdery slab with a sealed surface that shrugs off water, dropped weights and spilled detergent. Lower levels that have ever had a damp corner are where it pays off most.

Warehouse Floor Coating

A warehouse floor coating ends concrete dust, brightens the building and protects the slab from forklift wear. It is one of the least expensive ways to make a warehouse easier to clean and safer to work in.

Commercial Epoxy Flooring

A coated commercial floor is joint-free, mops clean, resists stains and holds up to carts, rolling chairs and winter boots. It replaces tired tile, carpet and bare concrete in clinics, offices, shops, showrooms and staff rooms.
